I only knew Charlie for about 5 years, but his smile brightened my days walking in the Neiborhood. He'd be walking from his house to mine (Ellen at 162) and back, and always have a smile and something nice to say:) We took turns putting the stones back in the corner of the lot on the street. He used to say "they think it's part of the road"!! Miss you, Charlie, and I'll keep putting the stones back where they belong !! God bless your family in this sorrowful time, but never let them think of you without a smile...I know I won't:)

Our hearts are heavy, we lost Karen’s Father Charlie Basch this past week. Charlie was such a wonderful man, I had know him since I was in my teens. He always was kind hearted and funny. He always had something to say, if you knew Charlie you know what I mean.
When Karen and I first met It was over 35 years after meeting Charlie. Both Charlie and Malou were always welcoming to me and my boys. When Karen and I first started dating and they met my boys, they welcomed them to their family like they were their own grandchildren and they did the same to me.
Years later after Malou passed Karen and I reconnected and got married. By this time my oldest son was married and children would soon follow. Well let me tell you Charlie fell in love with the babies and considered them his great grandchildren. Let me just say Bapa was very loved by those two children dearly.
I will always value the time I spent with my Father In-law, he was a man of character and extremely hard worker and a man that loved his family dearly. I feel so blessed that I was able to share him with my boys and their families.
Bapa, thank you for all the love and support you showed me and Karen and all are kids and Grandkids. Rest in piece my friend and please give Malou and my parents a hug for us. Until we meet again my friend. Love You

I met Charlie in 1950 when we were both Freshman at Webster High School. We played baseball and basketball together and it was during these years that I realized what a wonderful person he was, as well as a great athlete. He and I became fast friends.
We joined the Coast Guard at the same time but unfortunately did not serve together. He was best man at my wedding and I was best man at his. Charlie was always kind and considerate and my wife, Joyce and I shared many great moments with him and Malou. Charlie was a very special human being and our world was a better place with him in it. I will miss him dearly.
My condolences to Duane, Karen and the rest of his family. Sure he will shine his light down on all of us.
