Skins was not just our friend, he was like family. He loved a good time and he always made sure everyone had one too. He was the best husband, father, brother, Grandpa and friend. We know he will always be watching over us all. We love you Deb, John and Skins and of course Thorgan

Sad times for the Westend. Although I have been absent for many years, I still remember all the fun we had growing up in West Webster. Skin's number one priority was to always have fun. Skins was a leader and the life of the party. Just sharing one story of hundreds. One time we decided to go to the Empire Drive-in to see a movie. We loaded up the trucks and the Westend did the normal caravan down Old Ridge to the Drive-in. Now some people would bring a folding lounge chair to sit outside the truck to watch the movie. But not skins. He brought a couch two end tables and a couple of lamps to put on the tables for aesthetics. Skin's second priority was to be comfortable. Like many, many nights after the movie we ended up going to The Dumps for refreshments.
God bless Skins and all that had the chance to know him.

My siblings and I spent a lot of time fishing at Skins’ place growing up. Between that and the many gatherings we attended there over the years (“Skins Productions”), that house and pond were sources of many great memories. I still remember my dad teaching me to cast in our side yard when i was five or six so I’d be ready to fish at my first Skins Production. Decades later, Skins’ pond remained an annual destination on Father’s Day, as my siblings and I would head there to fish with our dad.
When our dad (Mike Potter) died, Skins took the lead in organizing an amazing tribute and celebration of his life, and even mentioned our annual Father’s Day fishing tradition when speaking about my dad. In the years that followed, he continued allowing my siblings and I to carry on that tradition in our dad’s memory. This past year, four years since our dad died, Skins was as enthusiastic as ever when I asked him if we could stop by.
I am grateful to Skins for giving us the chance to visit each year and reconnect with a place where we shared so many memories with our dad. Seeing the things our dad helped Skins build there over the years—from the dock to the foot bridge—is a source of pride for us.
In recent years, I didn’t have much contact with Skins outside of our annual Father’s Day fishing trips, but I’ll always appreciate the hospitality he continued to show me and my siblings. More importantly, I’ll always appreciate what a good friend he was to my dad.
When my dad died, Skins summed up his feelings by saying “MP YOU MATTER TO ME.” That phrase—“you matter to me”—was something my dad had said more than 20 years before, and it had stuck with Skins enough that he made sure to bring it back when remembering him. Because of how much my dad mattered to Skins (and vice versa), I will conclude my thoughts by following their leads: “Skins, you matter to me.”

Ah Deb! I'm so sorry for your loss. I've always been grateful that he found you. Skins was always good by himself, but you added a sparkle. Thanx for being a good & loving wife & friend. Leo (Snyder) & I will certainly be there to celebrate the life of a long time friend. Sadly, the most painful goodbyes are those left unsaid. Be glad for this past year. Remember too, that heaven is the place where all the dogs you've ever loved come to greet you. Skins probably already has a slobbery face!

I’ll always remember Skins for what a genuine friend he was to my dad. My dad valued his small group of very close friends and Skins was in this group. To me this reflects Skins’ character, as he stayed one of the few that my dad maintained a friendship with throughout the years.
He always welcomed my dad, me, and my brothers to his pond for fishing each year on Father’s Day, and was especially enthusiastic to help us continue our tradition even after our dad’s passing. It was always nice when Skins would come out and chat with us on the deck, even if that meant Thorgan was in tow and ready to jump in the water and scare all the fish away! These memories and Skins’ thoughtfulness will forever be invaluable to me.
Condolences to his wife Deb (who also greeted us with warmth each year on our fishing trips), his family, and all the West Enders.
Sincerely and truly,
Monica Potter!

Some of the best memories from my childhood involve fishing at Skins’ house with my dad, Mike Potter.
Throughout their lives Skins and my dad stayed friends and after my dad passed, Skins offered some of the kindest and most comforting condolences. Even after my dad passed, Skins always let me and my siblings come over to fish whenever we wanted because he knew it was so special to us. That is a true friend.
So thanks for everything, Skins. It meant more to me than you probably ever knew. “You matter to me.”
Best,
Lucas Potter
