Obituary of Stephen E. Lambert
Rochester: Passed away with loved ones by his side on December 22, 2023 at the age of 96.
Stephen is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 71 years, Margaret; his children, Scott, Brian (Anna), Nancy (John) McDermott and Kathleen; his grandchildren, Caitlin (Matt) Lucia, Emily (Rohit) Ummer, Meaghan (Tim) Feenan, Michael and Margaret McDermott, and Stephen Ward; his great-grandchildren, Julie and Laura Lucia, Sasha and Sophie Ummer, Liam and Owen Feenan , and Claire, Ella and Teagan McDermott.; many nieces and nephews.
Stephen was born in Somerville, MA on October 29, 1927 and was a US Army veteran of World War II. A lifelong educator, he retired in 1989 from the Rochester City School District, having spent most of his time at East High and Edison Tech, inspiring the lives of thousands of students in his 30+ years with RCSD.
After retirement, Stephen devoted his time to teaching his grandchildren math, science and history. He and Margaret took the grandkids on many adventures to Boston, San Francisco, Gettysburg and Canada, stopping for every science museum and historical sign along the way.
He loved learning, teaching, reading, gardening, watching Jeopardy with his wife nightly, but most of all, he loved his family.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Cecilia’s Church . 2732 Culver Rd., Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Honor Flight Rochester or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
