Aunt Gert, as we Hickey children referred to her, was a bosom buddy of my Mom's - to eat a cake made by Aunt Gert was awesomely delicious. I remember the one time I was sent to the office at St Ritas for suggesting to the 7th grade teacher that we were old enough to 'monitor' ourselves - he thought it insubordinate of me, so sent me to the office -- Aunt Gert put me to work filing -- she said things are never bad if you have something to do. I have never forgotten that or any of her many kindnesses to our family. -- eileen hickey
