Obituary of Gordon A. Greenfield, Jr.

Webster:  Friday, April 14, 2023, age 80. He leaves his wife, Carol; children, Andrew and Pamela Greenfield; step-children, Michelle (Jordan) Rowley, Shannon (Jay) Pessin and Ashley Stevens; 9 step-grandchildren; sister, Gail Bellwoar; brothers, Gary (Jeanne) and Guy (Linda) Greenfield; nieces and nephews.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Gordon attended Haverford High School and went on to graduate from Drexel University in 1965. During that time he also served his local community as a lieutenant in the Bon Air Fire Company, 1960-65. After college he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and enrolled in Officer Candidate School (OCS). He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on active duty and continued the U.S. Naval Reserves, rising to the rank of Commander before retiring in in 2002.

Gordon’s professional career brought him to Rochester, NY in 1968 to work for Eastman Kodak Company. He held several management positions during his tenure until retiring after 25 years of service. Gordon stayed very busy in retirement, including working as the general manager at Skaneateles Country Club, groundskeeper at Oakwood Cemetery, and inventory manager at Chase Pitkin. Later he served on the Board of Directors for the Rochester Hearing & Speech Center (RHSC). Gordon also volunteered for the Webster Association of Senior Program (WASP) driving seniors to medical appointments.

Throughout his life he had a passion for sports, whether playing, officiating, volunteering, or spectating. Gordon fondly spent many years as a football official for area high schools and colleges. He eventually transitioned to umpiring for high school softball and refereeing high school field hockey. He truly enjoyed his years as a volunteer coach for the Webster Schroeder field hockey team.

After his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Gordon joined Rock Steady Boxing where he formed a bond with so many like him to fight this disease. Gordon worked hard to delay the effects of Parkinson’s, and his dedication to the Rock Steady Boxing classes were key to his fight against Parkinson’s. The family is grateful to the Wellness 360 team for all the love and support.

Friends may call 11:00-1:30 Saturday, April 29 at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster, where a Service of Remembrance will follow at 1:30 PM. Interment, Oakwood Cemetery, Penfield. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org).
