Mrs. Ferguson was my piano teacher many years ago! I am still so thankful for all that she taught me! I don't know if she could see into the future, but she made sure to teach me how to play hymns (which is a separate skill from other types of music) -- which has worked out well for me at the various church pianist/organist jobs I have had over the past 40 or so years! She was so good at showing how music can be an essential part of one's life, even if it isn't the main focus! Her patience in teaching so many of us over the years was amazing. I used to love at the end of our recitals when she would have the most advanced students (Kimberly Nethaway is the one I remember the most) play amazing music, and then close out the recital by playing something equally amazing herself! Deepest sympathy to her family -- She was a truly class act!

Dear Tom, Gary and Bari,
I have such fond memories of your sweet Mom- and send my condolences to you.
She indeed was a wonderful woman who had the best smile.... though one day after leaving my piano lesson with her- I walked up to the Presbyterian Church where my Girl Scout troop was to meet...
I was too early for our meeting - but the church of course was open...- and I decided to wander around a bit... when I found lights were in on the organ- I decided to sit and practice “the Sound of Music” piece I was practicing for the next piano recital at your home for.... as I steadily played the piece- all of a sudden your Mom came rushing in!!!... and I very quickly learned that the organ was hooked up to the outside chimes- and the town of Vernon was filled with the “Sound of Music” ... and she wasn’t smiling!!! lol ... I believe her words to me were: “ I KNEW that was you Becky!!!!!! . . . Don’t you know that The outside bells are wired to this organ and everyone in town can hear it! You shouldn’t be in here!” I sure learned a big lesson that day- & thankfully I did no harm- except to my prideful self ! lol
I pray you each are well and again accept my deepest sympathy.
Sincerely,
Becky Gerow ( Dennee)

Joan was always smiling. I loved her giggle. She was a faithful member of the choir at Webster United Church of Christ. I will miss her.

Bari,
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Mom. It is never easy to lose a parent, no matter your age. I pray for your peace and comfort as you continue your life journey without your Mom's earthly presence.

My favorite childhood/teen memories of Aunt Joan were during our visits to Vernon in the summer and a few Thanksgiving holidays. She was always smiling and fun-loving – which made you feel good. She was a great cook too! She loved the piano and encouraged me to keep playing through the high school years. Time and physical distance prevented visits during my adult years, but her strong love of family and gay spirit remain in my heart. Rest in peace with Uncle Jim, Aunt Joan! Love, Lynda
