I met Joan in the fall of 1981 at the Webster Town Hall. I was a student at Michigan State University doing an internship with Xerox Recreation Services in Webster. Before I left Michigan to do my internship, my grandparents told me I had a relative there that I should go say hello to. Joan is related to me through my grandpa. He said she was his niece. She was very kind and welcoming and happy to meet me. We took a photo together in front of the Webster town hall, and she told me to keep her in mind if I ever needed anything during my stay in the Rochester area. I was thinking about my time in Webster today and came across her obituary. I'm sorry to be late in offering my condolences. She was a lovely person. Love and prayers for all who are missing her. - Maureen Carter

Kind, beautiful, smart, caring - just a few words to describe Joan's wonderful persona. With her fantastic memory of so much, I always loved listening to stories of the personalities and inner-workings of the Town of Webster in an era no one working there today would recognize nor could probably even imagine. She took it all in stride, even with big changes and new people to work with and train - myself included. She was a master at the lost art of shorthand and unparalleled in her typing skills and speed. Even so, as the new dawn of technology arrived, she was a little rattled to adapt her time-honored skills to mesh with the marvels of modern technology. I can still see her sitting at the state-of-the-art Xerox word processor with the 8.5-inch floppy disks, making her best efforts to conquer the beast. Yet my favorite part was when she'd get stuck, she'd turn to me with an impish grin and tell me what her universal solution was to every stumbling block, "I just hit delete, right?" I cherish those years I had the pleasure of working with Joan and have been grateful for all the years since she retired to have remained her friend. Her Church, including many years of volunteer work there, was so precious to her and was only surpassed by the unending and deepest love she felt for her family. It is certain that now she is reunited with Gerry and Colin. I also know that with her fun-loving spirit that on the journey up she was so delighted she couldn't resist expressing her happiness in her playful outburst squealing with delight - WH-H-E-E-E-E-E! For me, I will miss having you here on earth Joan, you were a most special and treasured friend.

I was sorry to hear about your mother. My remembrance is on behalf of my father George F. Popp, who enlisted in the USAAF with your father. My dad told me many stories about his time in Southern France with Jerry. My dad met your mother when
he and Jerry returned from WW2. He always had nice things to say about both of them before he was consumed by Alzheimers.
