Obituary of Jean (Gabrielse) Ofsonka

Webster: Friday, February 28, 2020. died peacefully at the Maplewood Nursing Home in Webster, New York, at the age of 91. Jean is survived by son, John Ofsonka and daughter-in-law, Deborah Lister, of Abingdon, Maryland. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Philip R Ofsonka, of Webster. Jean was born on June 7, 1928 in Rochester, New York to John and Edna Gabrielse. After completing her degree at the University of Texas, El Paso, Jean began her career as a teacher. After returning to Webster in 1964, she taught first grade at State Road Elementary School for 25 years. Jean was a life-long animal lover and spent many happy hours with her husband helping to foster dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. In her last years, she enjoyed visiting with local horsewomen at Mendon Ponds Park. Friends are invited to calling hours 1-3 PM Friday, March 6, at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home. 12 South Ave., Webster. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester/Lollypop Farm. The family would also like to thank the staff of Maplewood Nursing Home for their dedicated care of Jean in her later years.
