Deacon Thomas R. Ecker

 

Penfield:  Tom, passed away on January 27, 2019 at the age of 79 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. 

     Tom is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Donna; children, Michael (Jean), Christopher (Sue), Stephen (Melanie) and Colleen (Paul); grandchildren, Alec, Emily, Christopher, Jonathan, Joshua, Dean, Christine (Bradley) and Paul; sister Anne VerPlank; many nieces & nephews.

     Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and was thrilled to be an attendee of Honor Flight – mission #62 this past September.  Tom was a Deacon in the Catholic Church serving for over thirty years at Bethany House for homeless women and children and most recently at St. Jerome’s Church in East Rochester.  He was an avid sailor, obtaining his captain’s license, and a member of the Pultneyville Yacht Club.  Tom was also an Eagle Scout.

     Friends are invited to join the family at the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave. Webster, Friday, February 1, from 4-7 pm.  As is custom, Deacon Tom will lie in state at St. Jerome’s Church, 207 Garfield Street, East Rochester on February 2, from 9am to 10:45am; where a Mass celebrating Deacon Tom’s life will follow at 11 am.  Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Honor Flight Rochester Inc., P.O. Box 23581, Rochester, NY 14692 so that other veterans may enjoy the experience Tom did or Bethany House, 1111 Joseph Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621.
