Twelve Corners School-age Programs posted a condolence
Friday, August 17, 2018
It was a real pleasure knowing Chris while he was completing his Education Degree. Chris worked for Twelve Corners School-Age Program as a program director. In later years Chris was my daughters science teacher at Willink Middle School. Through all the years one thing remained the same, the compassion and care Chris gave to all his students was simply outstanding. Chris treated every person with dignity and respect. His caring spirit will be missed by all. My sincere condolences to Chris's family.

I did not know Coach Barnes well but in my few interactions with him I could tell he was a wonderful person, coach, teacher and positive role model for our children. Prayers for him and to all of his family, friends and students.

I don't really know Mr. Barnes, but I have worked with his daughter. Having lost my parents this year also, I have come to realize that children are a reflection of good parents (ones that take time with their kids throughout their lives). Knowing Kelli assures me that he was a great man! I'm so sorry for your lost, but I pray he has found an eternal home with God.

I first met Chris through my children's education at Willink Middle School. Chris had my son, Brian, and my daughter, Emma for science in the Green Hall 6th grade. I had begun substitute teaching in 2002 and taught in his class several times throughout my 12 years in the WCSD. Our youngest daughter, Sarah, took up lacrosse and made her way up to the Varsity level where she met and played for Chris for Webster Thomas HS. When I went full-time as a teaching assistant in the district, I was placed at Willink where I worked alongside Chris in and out of the classroom. Chris was a firm, fine educator who conveyed his curriculum in a clear, interesting way with logic and humor. I enjoyed working for him, with him and as a lacrosse parent along with many others. He was a good coach to our girls, fair and kind. His passing is a great loss to our school community, our sports family and to so many that call him friend. I will miss him.

Mr. Barnes has left a beautiful legacy to be remembered by. He inspired a love of science in my daughter this past year and she will always remember Mr. Barnes and his fun passionate approach to teaching. Our family will always remember Mr. Barnes and we want Mr. Barnes' family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Chris in 1987 when I was a freshman at Geneseo and was considering rushing Sigma Nu. He was one of the most friendly, welcoming, positive brothers in the fraternity. When I accepted my bid and began my pledging process, Chris’s support and guidance of my pledge class was a major influence on all of us. He truly epitomized the core values of our fraternity, Love, Truth and Honor. While I was an active brother, I looked forward to anytime Chris would return to visit the chapter. As alumni, I always enjoyed catching up with him both at Geneseo and at Alumni retreats and reunions. Talking with him at our annual Rochester Christmas events was always something that I looked forward to. Chris will be missed by so many, but please know that his legacy will live on in so many ways, particularly in the brotherhood of Sigma Nu and Sigma Nu Chi.

I am very sorry for the loss of your husband and father. I enjoyed getting to know him better during my time subbing at Willink. He was a wonderful, kind and gentle person who seemed to inspire many students and athletes. He battled his fight with cancer with so much courage. Our prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
