Obituary of Margaret Lloyd Wahl
Rochester: Died peacefully at home on Sunday November 12, 2017; from cancer. Megan was born December 10, 1948. She grew up in Clinton, NY, attending Clinton Central School. Megan was a gifted musician, singing and performing in school musicals and playing cello in the orchestra. Megan was also an outstanding student and majored in French Literature at Oberlin College. After her junior year in Paris, Meg returned to finish her degree at the newly formed Kirkland College (now Hamilton). Meg’s painting and sculpting from that time were exquisite.
Megan’s creativity and adventurous spirit took her to Nantucket Island to work a scallop boat and restaurant for several years. Meg accompanied herself on the guitar when she sang at area restaurants.
After relocating to Rochester, Meg met and married Roger Wahl, her devoted husband of 29 years. Meg and Roger were deep spiritual companions and led a quiet life of service and contemplation. Meg turned her creative eye to poetry and produced wonderful pieces about nature and God.
Megan was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Arthur Evans and brother-in-law, Neil Wahl. She leaves to mourn her passing Roger Wahl, sisters-in-law, Lorraine Wahl Eaves & Debbie Wahl; her siblings Connie Evans, Arthur Evans and his wife Julie, and Elizabeth Evans Rossi and her husband Vincent, as well as nephews Nathaniel Evans and his wife Montserrat, Arthur M. Evans, Henry W. Evans, Evan Rossi, and William Rossi, and niece Rachel Rossi and her husband Richard. Meg also leaves special friends Kathleen Simmons and Sue Ellen Gutacker. Meg also cherished her prayer group friends: Joyce, Peggy and Tamara. Meg held in her heart love and affection for her deceased, best childhood friend Winnie Winship.
Meg liked to play the hostess although we didn’t do that a lot. She would clean and dust and put out special silverware for Thanksgiving. A few close friends would come over, Hank, Kathleen and Jeff. Our feast would often by followed by an old movie or Hank playing the guitar. Meg didn’t like Roger’s rock and roll, but after a while, I’d get her up to dance and she would enjoy the music then - of course we are old, so we didn’t do that often!
There will be no calling hours. Megan’s memorial service will take place Thursday November 16 at 11am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church 1767 Plank Road, Webster, NY 14580 with interment later at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Good Samaritan Fund at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
The family is grateful for the kind care of UR Oncology and Radiation teams, as well as Visiting Nurse Hospice Program.
