Obituary of Harvey L. Mitchell
Webster: Formerly lived in Wilmington and Millsboro, DE passed from this life on July 29, 2017 at the age of 95. He was born on June 23, 1922 in Wilmington, Delaware, son of Welford B. Mitchell and Irene G. (McWhirt) Mitchell. He was the 6th of 7 children.
Harvey dearly loved his family and was predeceased by his son, Harvey L. Mitchell Jr. and his two brothers and four sisters. Survived by his wife of 74 years, Irene Trembly Mitchell, his daughter, Lois (Bob) Didas; three grandchildren, W. Wayne (Ellen) Didas, Tracy (Jeff) Smith and Glen Didas; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua, Brooke, Evan, Peter, Eric, Taylor, Jessica and many nephews and nieces.
Harvey was a World War II veteran who served in France, Germany and Belgium. He worked for 41 years for Hercules Powder Company mostly in the printing shop and retired in 1984. He enjoyed 33 years of retirement with family and friends.
Harvey enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing on the Indian River Inlet while they lived in Millsboro, Delaware. Irene and Harvey enjoyed going to their friendly casino every Thursday evening for dinner and spending time playing the slots.
A special thank you to St. John's Meadows Assisted Living and The Maplewood Nursing and Rehabilitation for all their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either of these facilities.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 31st from 2-4 PM at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster. There will be a reception immediately following, details will be available at the funeral home. A Graveside Service will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Delaware.
