Obituary of Charlyne A. Hickey

Webster, formerly of Rochester: December 13, at the age of 73. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Blanche. She leaves her husband of 32 years, David Hickey; daughters, Elizabeth (Dave) Kimmer and Angelica Hickey; grandson, Samuel Kimmer; siblings, David (Kate) Miller and Debbie (Doug) Churchill; many cousins, nieces and nephews, beloved friends.

Charlyne was a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and began her nursing career at the VA Hospital in Albany. She moved to Rochester to continue her career at U of R Medicine.  While working at Strong Memorial Hospital, she earned her Masters degree in Nursing and later became a nurse practitioner.  For many years she worked in the Movement Inherited Neurological Disorders (MIND) Unit in the Department of Neurology at the University, where she worked primarily with patients with Parkinson’s or Huntington’s disease. She retired in 2016.

She was a longtime volunteer at Camp Joy, which she got involved with through her church. She loved to garden; sew; bake; read; volunteer at Reformation and Our Saviour Lutheran Churches; and spend time with children, especially her grandson.

Charlyne never put herself first and always prioritized helping others. She was exceptionally generous with her time and love.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour or to Doctors Without Borders.
