Hello Jane and Joan,
I am very sorry to only now see this obituary. I do pray that the Lord is comforting you and the entire family during this time. It is certainly very hard to understand how the Lord is glorified in everything. Gary had many trials, but he was also a blessing.
I can remember growing up with Gary all through the Penfield school system. Gary was my best friend. Neither of us liked the school bus so we always walked - Baird Road School, Denonville Jr. High and High School. He sometimes protected me (I was 'short of stature' - Gary was not :>)).
We ate our way through your cherry tree a couple of times and wondered what would happen if we touched the telephone wires that ran through the middle. I remember getting in trouble with your dad for touching his garage tools one time (probably more than one time) - Gary took the heat.
After high School, Gary talked Ellie and me into a bowling league. Even though I was horrible, it was great fun to hang out and this is back when bowling alleys were filled with so much cigarette smoke that you couldn't see three lanes down. I was so bad they gave me a huge handicap, which helped us win many games.
Once Gary began to have troubles relating, he still spent a lot of time at our workshop in Penfield just shooting the breeze with me. we even put him to work a few times; so technically, he was an organbuilder for a short time.
I miss Gary and wish I could have seen you all at the calling hours.
