I knew Ralph in the New Horizons band where we both played trumpet, I was just getting restarted on my trumpet when I met him and it was obvious that he was very advanced and I was a little intimidated. He was quiet as I remember and I wondered if my joking around was too annoying. Then one night we played an outdoor concert at Asbury church and the wind kicked up. My music was blowing all over the place and I didn't know how I was going to play with one hand and hold my horn with the other,.Fortunately I was sitting next to Ralph and he helped me get my music organized and pulled out a bunch of clothes pins and helped me pin my music to the stand,
I find it interesting that those little acts of kindness are not forgotten and measure the person performing them.
