Obituary of David Ernest Lloyd Hall
Passed away at home on August 6, 2024.
David was born February 5, 1932, in Wolverhampton, England to Aimee Tolefree Burslem and Clifford Lloyd Hall. After growing up during WWII in England, he emigrated to East Orange, NJ. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1953 with a BS in Business. Then he enlisted in the US Army, serving as a photographer in the 497th Signal Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Post-discharge, he moved to Rochester, NY and joined Eastman Kodak Company where he met and fell in love with Mary Elizabeth Chapman. They married in 1957 and raised their family in Fairport. After losing Mary to leukemia, David met and fell in love with Peggy Wiedemann in Yellowstone National Park. They married in 1998 and settled in Penfield before moving to Chapel Oaks.
David retired at age 54 and excelled at retirement, travelling the world, continuing his passion for photography, and taking up hobbies including painting and model railroading. At 60 he learned to play the French horn and joined the New Horizons Band. At 80, his fingers grew stiff from arthritis, so he learned the trombone.
David is predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Mary, and son, Philip David Hall. He is survived by wife, Peggy; children, Carol (Robert) Serro and Peter (Darla) Hall; grandchildren, Christopher (Aubrie) Serro, Jessica (Luigino) Galletto, Adam Hall and his partner Audrey Welshans, Scott Serro, Jennifer (Matthew) Reeds; great-grandson, Carter Reeds; and stepchildren, Maryann (Paul) Baldwin and Carl Wiedemann.
David considered himself one of the luckiest men alive. He was thankful for the bonds that persisted with friends and family in England despite being an ocean away. His military service established his love for photography and travel. He married and cherished two wonderful women. In his long and healthy retirement, he embraced every opportunity to learn and explore the world. His was a full life, well lived.
