Harold Krieger, Jr.

Obituary of Harold Krieger, Jr.

Webster Village: Thursday, August 29, 2024, age 96. Survived by his son, Hal Krieger. Predeceased by his wife, Ann; daughter, Judy; companion, Nancy Theis; sisters, Ruth Virkus and Joyce Backus.

Harold graduated from Irondequoit High School in 1946, then served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. He married Ann Silberstein in 1951 and upon graduating from the University of Rochester in 1953, took employment in Cleveland, Ohio. It was there that he became a huge Cleveland Browns fan.

In 1957 he joined Eastman Kodak and returned to Rochester. In 1958 Harold and family settled in the Village of Webster. In 1966 Harold and Nancy Theis became the first Democrats ever to be elected to the Webster Village Board. After serving five years on the village board, Harold worked to make it possible for people who worked in Webster to be able to afford to live there, too.

Harold’s attention centered on his favorite hobby, fishing, and the family bought a cottage lot in Canada which became a place that they loved and kept for forty-two years.

He served on the Town of Webster Planning Board during the 1970’s and retired from Kodak in 1986. Prior to retirement, he led, in 1985, the formation of a cottage association at Big Gull Lake in Ontario, Canada. He was the first president and served for eight years. In 1991, he was called upon to reorganize the Webster Democrats and once again became involved in organizing campaigns because of his belief of a strong party system to give the people a choice.

Harold treasured his family and all the wonderful friendships he made throughout his life at home, Canada, at work, in community groups and his fishing companions at the cottage.

     Funeral services will be private.
