Joan Marie (Hill) Irving, 95, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024 in Rochester, New York with several family members by her side.
Joan was born on April 28, 1929 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in Hamilton with her parents and three brothers, Bill, Craig, and John Hill, and graduated from Delta Secondary School in 1947. After high school, Joan attended teaching college and spent time as a second-grade teacher. She married Walter Irving on July 9, 1949 and they moved to Rochester, New York in 1950 where Walter worked for Kodak. Joan and Walter had five children: John (Margo), Jane Bashaw (Ben), Wendy Haggar (Rob), Mark (Lyn) and David (Lisa). Joan was a devoted and loving wife of more than forty years to Walter who passed away in 1989. She also had fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always taking time to listen and share her wisdom and experience with family members. Joan enjoyed bridge club, watercolor art, friendships, time with family, travel, and serving in various roles at The Church of the Incarnation in Penfield. Joan’s very favorite place to spend time was the Irving family cottage on Lake Muskoka in Canada, where she shared decades of memorable and glorious summers with family. Joan will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. She will be remembered for her love, hard work, and devotion to family and friends.
A memorial service will be held for Joan at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 12 at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation located at 1957 Five Mile Line Road in Penfield. A light lunch will be served afterwards.
