Obituary of Robert Markham
“Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”— John 3:18-23
Bob Markham was a man of truth and action, with a kind heart and strong faith. He passed away on April 15 at the age of 84.
For more than 20 years, Bob’s deep faith, strong moral character and business acumen were a blessing to Heritage Christian Services as he served as an agency board member (2002 – 2011), and agency board chairman (2005 – 2007). It was during his tenure that Heritage Christian Services opened many homes and program sites, including the Pieters Family Life Center. Notably, he was a key voice on the audit and finance committee (2002 – 2024) and considered every decision from the perspective of a parent of someone supported by our agency. Bob was a dedicated advocate for his son Paul, and all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Outside of his service to Heritage Christian, Bob was a business manager for the Gates-Chili school district. He also owned Robert Markham Tax Services for over 64 years and ROMARK Consulting for over 25 years. He served as chairman and treasurer for Mary Cariola Center's board of directors.
Bob was active at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Webster. He sang in the choir and was a soloist. He also played trumpet in the Brass Ensemble and taught Bible Study for many years.
Bob loved music and was a skilled trumpet player and singer. He was able to share his musical gift as a member of several local bands. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed joining his family at the Heritage Christian Services Golf Classic. Bob developed a passion for geocaching that he shared with his son, and led him and his friends on many geocaching adventures to the Adirondacks, where they would all stay at Heritage Hollow in Inlet.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Carol; two sons, Craig (Elena) and Paul; two grandchildren, Anna and Daniel Markham; brothers, Ronald and Richard Markham; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Robert) Douty.
Friends may call 3-5 PM, 7-9 PM Friday, April 26, at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 27 at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1130 Webster Road, Webster. Memorials may be directed to Christian Heritage Services, 275 Kenneth Drive, Suite 100, Rochester, NY 14623.
