Obituary of Ann Bazelmans

Ann Bazelmans (née van der Klugt), a beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023.  Ann was born in 1935, as the fourth child of Joannes and Cornelia van der Klugt, and grew up in Leiden, Netherlands.  Ann met and married the love of her life, Rudolf Bazelmans, on January 17, 1957. They moved to America shortly after their wedding and started a new chapter in their life as a couple. Together, they found great joy in sailing as a team and also shared a love for playing bridge and tennis. They were happily married for 30 years until his passing.

Ann will be lovingly remembered by Rudy (Dawn) Bazelmans, Mary-Ann Bazelmans, John (Donna) Bazelmans, Caroline Bower (Tim Notter) and Monique (Chris) Smith. She was the grandmother of Stefan (Christina) Bazelmans, Jarrod (Lindsay) Bazelmans, Calion (Felix) Winter, Josh (Nicole) Bazelmans, Emily Smith, Courtney Bower, Joe Bazelmans, Sophie Smith, Lauren Bower and Jonathon Bower.  She was the great grandmother of Evelyn, Luke, Grayson, Lucy, and Landon.  She was predeceased by her husband Rudolf Bazelmans, her brothers Martien (Atie) van der Klugt and Jan (Margreet) van der Klugt, and by her sister Corrie (Kees) van Teylingen.  She is survived by her sister Ada (Ben) de Ruijter.

Known for her loving and playful personality, Ann found joy in many activities, including spending time with loved ones, endless phone calls and shopping with friends, starting each new day with “good morning world," keeping a spotless and inviting home, the smell of fresh linens hung outside to dry (even in the winter!), sailing, sitting by the lake, playing bridge, walking, swimming, bicycling, playing tennis and tackling Sudoku among many other things. She also took great pleasure in attending the theater, church services, helping wherever needed and volunteering with the Marthas at St. Paul’s Church.

Visitation will take place on December 14, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Avenue, Webster, New York.  A memorial service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held on December 15, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Church, 783 Hard Road, Webster, New York.

The Marthas Ministry was very dear to Ann, and she enjoyed helping them provide meals for funeral receptions and other parish events.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to the Marthas through St. Paul’s Church or to the Alzheimer's Research & Prevention Foundation.
