Obituary of Tonya M. (Germani) Godfrey
Webster: Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 29, 2023, at the age of 66, after a brief and unforgiving illness.
Tonya was born on November 14, 1956 in Syracuse, NY. After graduating Liverpool High School, she went on to complete her Associate of Arts degree at Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and pursued a career in nursing. She became a certified RN and worked for over 30 years at AMP Urology in Syracuse. Tonya had 3 children, Daimon, Danielle and Dana. She married her soulmate, James “Jimmy” Godfrey and they lived with their children and pets in Tully, NY for many years.
Tonya was predeceased by her husband, Jimmy; parents, Anthony and Olga Germani; mother-in-law, Joyce Godfrey. Following Jimmy’s death in 2017, Tonya moved to Liverpool to live with and care for her mother, Olga. Following Olga’s death in 2018, she continued to provide care for her father, Anthony. She and her father moved to Webster, NY in 2020, with her beloved dog Bella, so that they could be closer to her children, grandchildren, and other family.
She is survived by her three children: Daimon (and wife, Valerie) Oberholtzer and their two children Noah and Nathan of Webster; Danielle Oberholtzer (and her fiancé, Iian) of Syracuse; and Dana Godfrey (and husband, Matt Brophy) their son, James “JJ”, and their dog Juneau of Webster. Tonya is also survived by her sister, Mary Toni (Michael) Bachman of Raleigh, as well as by several close in-laws, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and her dog, Bella.
Friends and family may call on Friday, October 6th from 10am-12pm at Pennellville United Methodist Church, 389 County Rte 54, Pennellville, NY. A celebration of life service will occur immediately after. A luncheon will follow the service, and then she will be laid to rest beside Jimmy at Pennellville Cemetery, 556 County Rte 54, Pennellville.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Rescued Treasures Pet Adoptions, Rochester, NY or Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, Syracuse, NY.
