Ron and I played on the Clarkson chess team. I remember fondly his dry humor. In a lost position while struggling on instead of me resigning he would say " Are you operating on the drop dead theory? Many memories...Rick.

RIP Ron, chess coach extraordinaire. I met him in the mid 90s during the chess league playoffs, and got to know him during my time as a regular at the RCC. I remember riding with him to many out of town tournaments. Even after I moved away, I visited Rochester from time to time and was always glad to see Ron while I was there. I also remember playing him a few friendly games in the diner that time he was working a kiddie tournament here in Illinois. Sorry to hear of his sudden passing.

Ron - The Original Influencer
Ron Lorman was an influencer before the word became modern lingo. He influenced young lives in the best way possible. He took wild, untamed kiddos - one as young as five years old, with wild curly hair, crazy amounts of energy and profoundly deaf - and instilled discipline and focus through chess. Ron was the largest influencer, a mentor, a dear friend and the guiding light in the life of our son, Abraham.
As the heart and soul of the chess center, Ron not only imparted the skills of a good and honorable chess player but also instilled the values of goodness and honor in our son's character. In Ron's chess community, our son found more than just a place to play; he discovered acceptance, learned patience, and felt the enduring bonds of friendship. Ron's commitment to creating and maintaining this nurturing environment transformed our son's childhood in profound ways. Without Ron and the chess center, our son's path would have been drastically different. Ron's teaching and support were instrumental in shaping our son's success, a success that stands as a testament to the influencing guidance he so generously provided.
We are profoundly grateful to Ron for creating, sustaining, and being the heart and soul of the Rochester Chess Center - a true community. His legacy of support, guidance, and patience made him the best kind of influencer.
Ron, your memory will continue to shine brightly. Thank you for being an influencer in our son's journey and in the lives of so many others.

I am very saddened to hear of Ronnie's passing. Knowing him and my introduction to the chess club inspired and aspired me to a greater purpose during a very trying time in my life. Ronnie was a man given to commitment and covenant in all he believed in. His life was a testimony in honesty, integrity and most of all hard work.
He established the Rochester Chess Center, which in my opinion, was not only an establishment that taught chess, but taught the very foundations of good citizenship to the youth of our city. He always extended himself to the well being of others and in this was his greatest asset. It was a privilege in knowing him as he demonstrated a hard work ethic, tremendous physical fitness and his love and passion in promoting chess in our city. I will sorely miss him.
Respectfully,
Joseph Sarratori

We had so much fun over the years just kibitzing about chess and chess players.
It is hard to imagine how many lives Ron touched. So many young people learned the game, and some life lessons as well, from Ron and the staff at the Chess Center.
The chess players in Rochester will be forever grateful for the Chess Center that Ron created and ran for so many years. Most cities our size have no such facility.
I will remember Ron as a true friend, a real competitor, and a wonderful ambassador for the game we all love.

Ron had a large influence on our son Dale, who came of age playing at the Rochester Chess Center. The environment that Ron enabled and promoted at the Center nurtured our son for ten years of his life, teaching him much more than chess. Ron helped instill confidence and a strong sense of camaraderie in him and in all the young people under his watchful eye. Ron was larger than life and was a great example to all, to live life to the fullest and seemed to laugh at age.

I will always remember Ron as an energetic and knowledgeable advocate for Chess. He inspired me to create a Scholastic Chess club and enjoyed the 30 year relationship I had with him. What a great guy and singlehandedly put Rochester NY on the map regarding chess. He will not be forgotten!

Rest in Peace Cousin Ron.
So happy we were assigned to the same Wednesday Morning Team in 2023. I finally had the privilege of experiencing being your teammate. It was great. Also lots of fond memories of playing ball every Sunday afternoon as kids at the Lohrman - Prinzing gatherings on Shoecraft Road.
You will be missed by all you came in contact with.

I met Ron through the Irondequoit Senior Softball leagues. He was as much fun to compete against as a teammate. Always a smile, giving the wisecracks as well a rolling with them. Never gave up on a play. I'm sure that epitomized his life. He will be sorely missed.
