Obituary of Shirley A. Davis
Canandaigua: Shirley A. Davis, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 18, 2023 at The Maplewood in Webster, NY. She is survived by three children, Stephanie (Jim) D’Agostino, Scott (Rita) Davis, and Craig Davis; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Richard E. “Dick” Davis in 2019; son, Howard; brother, Charles Averill; and sister, Dorothy Glesnner.
Shirley was born in Richmond, VT on September 20, 1930 and was the daughter of Wilburt and Helen (Olmstead) Averill. She graduated from Richmond High School, class of 1948. Shirley earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Vermont, class of 1952, where she started her career in nursing. She and Dick, high school sweethearts, were married December 28, 1952, in Richmond. They moved to Canandaigua in 1962. Shirley was a registered nurse at F F Thompson Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and served on various community programs for over 40 years. She enjoyed bridge, golf, quilting, sewing, travel and spending time with family and friends. Shirley was an exemplary golfer and member of Canandaigua Country club, winning Senior and Super Senior Club Championships as well as hole in one’s several times. Travel included yearly trips to Myrtle Beach for golf.
A private service is being arranged at the convenience of the family.
