It was always a pleasure to speak with Ev about her Christmas hobby collection.

We were fortunate to meet Ev and Dick when we moved to LaBaron Circle around 35 years ago. They were very welcoming, and Ev and I became fast friends. She encouraged our involvement in Webster Baptist Church when our daughter, Sara, was turning 5. It was a wonderful experience for both Sara and I. Ev and I had many a cup of tea together talking about everything from raising children to antiques. Her endless desire to help others influenced me to do the same and I will always be grateful to her for that.
One of the funniest memories I have of Ev I didn't see firsthand but laughed endlessly with her during the retelling of the incident. She was home alone one day and, I believe it was 2 Jehovah's Witnesses, came to her front door. She immediately backed up against the front door so that, she thought, they couldn't see her. They eventually went away and then she realized that all that time they could see her in the mirror that was directly across from the front door. She was something else!
Ev was a selfless and caring person and Greg, Sara and I feel very fortunate to have known her. We offer our condolences to all her family. She loved you all very much.

So many memories of friendship with Dick and Ev dating back to the 1970’s, when we enjoyed our mutual involvements in the insulator-collecting hobby! Later, the mutual involvement in mutual Christmas antiques and the Golden Glow club! RIP dear Ev…and our heartfelt prayers and condolences to Dick and the entire Bowman family!

I was very saddened to learn of Evelyn's passing. I first met her in June, 1981 at the first annual get-together of our Christmas collector's group. She and I developed a very close bond for many years. I could always count on Evelyn's help and support, and an occasional story or bit of gossip. And she always lifted me up during many of Life's personal struggles. It's too hard to type any more, but to Dick and her children, please know that I share your loss and that I'm thinking of you now.

I met Evelyn at my first Golden Glow convention in 1989. She welcomed me wholeheartedly and we fought the good fight for many years together, to keep the Golden Glow (a vintage Christmas collectors' club) a welcoming place where education and fellowship were front and center. Dick, you and my son Michael both found things to do while Evelyn and I were busy "collecting". I still appreciate your recommendation to visit the air museum in Kalamazoo, MI. My condolences to you and your family. We were all privileged to know Evelyn for so many years.
