Obituary of Jean L. Cammer

Jean L. Cammer Webster, NY, passed peacefully on November 6, 2016. She was born on September 15, 1936 in Roxbury, NY to Lynn and Bertha Slauson Cammer. She graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1954 and continued on to SUNY Cortland, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Education. Jean started her teaching career in Auburn, NY. She went on to teach in Ohio and Florida before returning to New York. She taught in the Fairport School District for many years. Jean loved helping her students on their educational journey. As an avid bird watcher, she traveled extensively throughout the United States enjoying not only the birdlife, but amazing scenery, other wildlife, and nature in its entirety. Gardening and flowers were also a passion which showed in Jean's beautiful garden and around her home. Jean highly valued education and after her retirement. She continued on that path by volunteering as a docent at the Susan B. Anthony Museum and House in Rochester, NY. Giving tours and dressing up in period costume at events gave her great pleasure. She loved a teachable moment. She met many people through the Anthony House and enjoyed educating school tours and visitors on the rich history of the House, Anthony, and the movement. Other hobbies included wine tasting events, attending various lectures, watching football, golf, and the Yankees, and of course shopping. Jean loved spending time with her family. She would travel to various points on the map to take part in graduations, births, weddings, birthdays and all other festivities. She is survived by her sisters Helen (Charlie) Faraci of Roxbury, NY and Elaine (David) Moseley of Lexington, SC, her brother Larry (Jane) Cammer of Oneonta, NY and sister-in-law Deborah Cammer of Roxbury, NY. Nieces and nephews include, Sue, Gary, Tom, Vin, Tracy, Rick, Kelly, Steve, Cathy, Holley, Jill, and Dennis. She is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She had many wonderful friends, whom the family would like to thank for their love, support, and unwavering friendship. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Marie Mead and brothers Robert Cammer and Roy Cammer. She was also pre-deceased by niece Debbie Gagliolo and nephew Mark Cammer. Jean was an amazing sister, aunt, and friend. She will truly be missed. Celebrations of Jean's life will take place at a later date in both Roxbury, NY and in Rochester.
