Obituary of Ruth (Studeman) "Gammy" Batzing
Webster: On Friday, September 9, 2022, at age 94, Ruth Batzing’s loving family said goodbye to their wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as she went to be with her Lord and Savior in heaven.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Batzing, and parents, Carl and Marion Studeman. Ruth leaves a daughter, Elizabeth (Douglas) Morgan of Palmyra, NY, and Peter (Cheryl) Batzing of Richardson, TX; grandsons Darrell (Jenn) Morgan and Braden Batzing; and granddaughters Amber (Joel) Bantle and Holly (Jeremy) Norsen. Affectionately known as “Gammy,” Ruth also leaves behind seven great-grand-children – Zeke, Morgan, Kendall, and Charlotte (Ruth) Bantle, Derrick and Analee Morgan, and Carter Norsen.
Ruth grew up in Webster, NY, in her parent’s home on Lapham Park, and lived there most of her life. For several years Ruth lovingly cared for four generations of family in the old house – her grandfather, father, husband, and children.
Ruth was an active student at Webster High where she consistently made the honor roll and served as secretary to the senior class. After graduating high school in 1946, Ruth took secretarial classes at Rochester Business Institute and voice lessons at the Eastman School of Music. Ruth shared her gifted soprano voice in choirs at Webster Presbyterian Church, Webster Baptist Church, the Harlem Chorus, and the Rochester Oratorio Society, among others.
In 1951 Ruth graduated with special honors from Geneseo State Teacher’s College where she met her future husband, Richard. The two married in the Lapham Park home in 1955.
Friends are invited to greet the family at Webster Baptist Church (59 South Avenue, Webster, NY) from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Private family interment at Webster Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested memorials be directed to Webster Baptist Church.
