Obituary of Nancy Jean Grier Gerber
Webster – Saturday, July 23, 2022, age 89. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Norman Albert Gerber and her brother G. Dudley Grier. She leaves her children, Debra (Eric) Reed, Bruce (Susan) Gerber, Aleta (Dean) Williamson, Megg (Dwayne) Van Der Meere, Jaime (John) Graziose; 16 grandchildren, Kory (Jodie) Reed, Keaghan (Jim) Hultquist, Lydia (Andy) Juskiw, Derek (Katherine) Gerber, Katy (Dalton) Drake, Hannah Gerber, Hobie and Mack Williamson, Jakob, Tyler, McKaylah, and Georgia Van Der Meere, Nicholas (Ashley), Alex, Jonathan, and Isabella Graziose; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dwight Gerber, of Addison, NY; sister-in-law, Ruth (Gil) O'Gawa, of Albuquerque, NM; nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born in Syracuse, New York on October 16, 1932, to George and Hazel Grier. She was a 1950 Graduate of Webster High School. Nancy worked at Sibley’s and later at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
Nancy married Norman Albert Gerber in 1953, her high school sweetheart and love of her life. Norman joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Key West, Florida. Nancy worked as an administrator on-base. They started a family in 1955 and moved back to Webster and became active members in The United Methodist Church. Nancy managed their family as it grew while working as Secretary/Treasurer of Gerber Homes, Inc.
Nancy enjoyed volunteering at Strong Hospital’s NICU where she held and comforted newborn babies. She attended every sporting and extra-curricular event she could, not only her children but of those of her grandchildren. Nancy cherished each of her children, 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A passionate gardener, she loved the outdoors and tending her flowers. She enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress who sewed beautiful gowns for her daughters’ weddings. She was also an interior decorator who styled many model homes as well as her own. Nancy’s love of animals was profound. Seneca Park Zoo will miss the regular visits by this tender-hearted soul. Her beautiful smile was readily shared, especially with those who longed for some compassion. She was a champion of her husband’s and of every member of her large family and always rooted for the underdog. Nancy was one-of-a-kind, up for any adventure. She was a caring and dedicated wife and mother whose absence will be deeply felt.
