My husband and I have had the great pleasure of living directly across the street from the Jacobs family for the past 17 years. Within the first few days after we moved in, Dave came over, introduced himself and said 'You'd better come over and meet Ma, she's curious about the new neighbors'. And so it began.
On occasion I would come over and visit with Mrs. Jacobs. Although her speech was affected by a stroke, she was almost always able to get her point across in our 'conversations'. And her sense of humor always came through!
Dave is a wonderful square dance caller, carrying on the tradition from his dad and uncle. My band has had the great pleasure of accompanying Dave on a number of square dances, including the annual Wayne County Fair. Mrs. Jacobs always attended the fair, dressed to the nines, and smiling from ear to ear with pride as she watched Dave call. Such a sweet memory!
My favorite memory though is something that I witnessed on a regular basis. On many mornings I would drink my coffee sitting in front of my living room window which looks directly across the street to the Jacobs farm. I would watch Dave as he left for 'work' on his tractor. And each day without fail, he would wave goodbye to his mom. Such a sweet, sweet thing to see and I feel blessed to have experienced this connection between mother and son.
We send our deepest condolences to you, Dave and Kendra. Rest well Mrs. Jacobs. You will be missed.
