Obituary of George Richard Secrist
Secrist, George Richard "Dick"
Webster/Fairport: Friday, October 7, 2016, age 95. Passed away peacefully at Penfield Place Nursing Home, Penfield, NY. Predeceased by wives, Rosamond "Roddie" Sykes Secrist and Ruth Buchan Stone Secrist; step-daughter, Margaret Vietor. Dick was born August 9, 1921 to Adeline and George T. Secrist. He was a graduate of Green Mountain College and Ohio State University, where he earned his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering. A WWII Army Veteran, Dick worked on the Manhattan Project in Oakridge, TN. A retiree of Eastman Kodak, Dick worked for many years as a Chemical Engineer. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and most of all, singing in the Barbershop Chorus of the Genesee, where he was an active member at the Harmony House until age 94.
Survived by his brother, John of Medfield, MA; children, Lynne Secrist of Winters, CA, David (Sara) of Macedon, NY, Mark of Sibley, IA, and John (Christine) of El Cajon, CA; step-children, Linda Vanderstyne of Fairport, NY, Shirley (David) Oestreich of Canandaigua, NY and Jon (Judy) Schriver of Danbury, CT; several grand and great-grandchildren, step-grand and great-grandchildren; nieces as well as many friends, both here and at Harmony Ranch, Baldwin, Ontario, Canada.
A Celebration of his Life and a reception for all guests will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, November 12, at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1040 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14607. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Asbury First United Methodist Church.
In keeping with Dick's life values of integrity, contributing more than his fair share, and giving back, he donated his body to the University of Rochester Medical Center as an anatomical gift for the purpose of medical research.
