Shirley Lowe

Obituary of Shirley Jeanne Heckman Lowe

Rochester:  September 17, 2021 at age 92, after a brief illness. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William Lowe. Survived by her three children, Ed (Sue), Jean (Alan Reddig) and Dan; grandchildren, Bill (Kristin), Ryan, Connor, Burr, Lindsey, Emilie (Ryan MacDonald), Caitlin (Jason Turner), Dillon (Rachel) and Spencer; nine great-grandchildren. Dear friend of Kathy Walling.

Unendingly generous with her time, Shirley opened her home to her husband's students throughout his career in education. She volunteered her time to causes that were important to her, including the library at the Nathaniel Rochester Community School. She was a member of the organizing committee of the Corn Hill Arts Festival for many years.

She was a tremendous artist and craftswoman who made costumes for local theatre productions. She made dozens of quilts for her family and friends, and donated many others to charitable causes. Each treasured piece is a testament to her boundless creativity, skill and generosity.

A lifelong adventurer, Shirley was a world traveler who spent her retirement years exploring cities across the globe with her husband, crossing the Atlantic dozens of times.

She was funny, sharp, kind and wise, and was dedicated to her family. She was the thread that tied her family together, and her love will remain a cherished memory for all.

There will be no local services in Shirley's memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to WXXI, whose programming gave her great joy for many years.
