Obituary of Bertram "Bud" Straube
A lifelong resident of Webster and eighty-eight years young, “Bud” Straube died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 23, 2021. He graduated from Webster High School, class of 1950, and often entertained his family with reminiscing about the teachers (including Mr. R. L. Thomas), about activities like running track, and the assorted “hijinks” that still made his classmates laugh at their regular reunions. After time in the Army, during which Bud was stationed in Japan, he worked as a lab technician at Eastman Kodak. His career there spanned an impressive 37 years. Upon retirement, he stayed busy and pursued his love of gardening by working at a local greenhouse. Later, he enjoyed time working at the Links at Greystone. Until recently, he participated in both bowling and golf leagues.
With his wife of 64 years, Rose Mary, Bud was very active in the Webster community, including as a Little League coach and at various positions like usher and Parish Board Chairman at St. Paul’s Church. Bud was proud of his three children: Linda (John Dragic) of Chicago, Rita (Charles) Corbett of Philadelphia and David (Maryann) Straube of Penfield. He greatly enjoyed time spent with his seven grandchildren and, recently, via video, with his new great-granddaughter. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by a sister, Mary Ann DeLano; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; and many friends with whom he shared his joy of playing golf, cheering at sporting events, taking that extra chance while playing cards, and worshiping at church.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life and faith will be announced at a later date. Amongst the many happy memories, we will always remember his compelling smile and laugh. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Church, 783 Hard Rd., Webster, NY 14580.
