So many memories come flooding back into focus seeing all of the pictures family members gathered to share from just 63 years of life. You were a jack of all trades and a new project was always on horizon. From growing up together, your hobbies ranged from taking everything apart to see how it worked, to fixing/building just about anything because you already knew how. Swim team, ice skating (yes, we even built a rink in the backyard), snow forts and snowball fights, sledding, fishing, riding horses, splitting the entire pan of butterscotch brownies between us after school, target practice and sailing up in Maine ... we sure had loads of fun. Explorers at the firehouse put the fire scanner in your room, calling you out the door to serve the community, something you did for the rest of your life. Off to the Navy next sailed you around the world, home again to Roberts Wesleyan, where you met Lynda, and started your family. Rochester has always been your home but now you’ve slipped this earthly struggle, love you always, Sarah.

I am sure John will be missed by you all. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. Many long ago memories from the days growing up on Chili Ave... St. Stephens Church, Arnett YMCA, backyard game with the Daly and Simpson families. My mother, Ruth Daly, and I send our sincere wishes for peace and love in the coming days.

As a kid visiting his house, Uncle John introduced me to some of the first advanced pc computer games (especially flight simulator). I was always itching to get a round on that Flight Simulator when we'd visit, which he'd usually let me (very carefully) play and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I was completely in awe of his stories of the Navy and such and have thought of him and his blazing fast <1Ghz PC computer every time I've played a flight simulator ever since!

Dear Simpsons,
Family of our heart, we are very sorry for your loss. John was not a family member with whom I was well acquainted. However, I know, from losing my only sister Gail that the loss of a sibling is very hard. They live in your heart for a very long time.
So our condolences to you his children, wife, his father, his sisters, his cousins of all varieties in your time of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Susan and Jock Robie

I don’t have specific memories per se; I do remember some animated and extensive conversations (a specialty in our family) and lots of laughter. I remember Johnny most from his hearty warm greetings and his sense of humor and ability to laugh. I will remember him as someone who despite his personal battles continued to heal himself through helping others. He spent a lot of time doing some useful things for Uncle Jack his Dad and keeping each other company was a positive although social distancing was not his specialty. He had a warm heart and a desire to improve his life and also repair some things that did not go well in his personal life. I know my Dad Alan and my Mom Evie always welcomed him into their home and provided encouragement and a listening ear. I’m proud that Johnny served our Country in the Navy and also happy that we are trending toward having a viewpoint of grace and acceptance in our family for each other. I will remember good times with Johnny present in ME, family dinners with Grandma Mary Simpson, Memorial Day Picnics in Seneca, decorating graves in Ovid, family parties, and most of all his laugh! I’m happy to also have two beautiful cousins Katie and Annie thanks to Johnny and Lynda.
May your rest in eternal peace wrapped in the loving arms of God the father, son, and Holy Spirit, I know your belief was steadfast in your life.

Cousin Johnny,
I loved you. Sometimes there are no words... Loved, Missed, Enjoyed. I am so glad to have known you and loved you as you were, a man who like myself has issues that they faced each day. I am glad we talked about all the amazing things that we did talk about. These amazing talks surround every memory I have of you and me. I found your optimism to be a source of great light. I know you are in a better place now. I am glad you have found peace and rest.
The scripture in John that spoke to me the strongest of how God's promise is there for you, for me and for others in this world is below for you to hear me say to you...
" In this world you will have troubles, but take heart.. I have overcome the world! John 16:33
Peace to the family and to you my brother -
Forever your loving cousin... Peter Simpson

John was a typical younger brother in our teenage years, but we reached an understanding that I would take him horseback riding as long as he treated me well. That gave me some peace and introduced him to a lifelong love of horses and to Davis Road, where he and Lynda eventually purchased their small farm. John was always ready to lend a helping hand and a sympathetic ear, whether it was in a construction project, auto repair or a support group. He helped me to repair the hole in the footwell of the back seat of my old beater in about 1973 and the floor in our living room a few years ago. This picture is from about 1997. John helped care for many people and animals that needed assistance. He was friendly and enjoyed conversations wherever he was including with his kaleidoscope of Uber passengers. John loved singing with his warm tenor voice whenever the opportunity presented itself. Before Covid, he practiced regularly with the Chorus of the Genesee, the Rochester area Barbershop harmony group. Peace be with you, John! Love, ‘Sis’ Carol

John had a love for plants and animals which allowed us to share tales and memories many times after church. He was a strong back and solid craftsman and... a good friend to so many. He will be so very missed and never forgotten. I hope his family will feel the Lord’s arms around them too as he receives his faithful servant in Heaven.
