I send my sincere sympathy to all of Ruth's family. I worked with Ruth for many years in the Rochester Genealogical Society and learned so much from her. She was one of the kindest souls I have ever known and a great help as I worked my way through being vice-president and two terms as president.
Ruth always had a good word for everyone and was able to find solutions to organizational problems in a persuasive, smiling manner. She believed in holding research and publishing to the highest standards. I remember when an associate wanted to exclude information from a church record book because it might be embarrassing to decedents and Ruth fell back on her librarian experience and supported truth and accuracy in the transcription. She really was a true asset as a leader in the Rochester Genealogical Society.
And she always love to talk about spending time teaching her grandchildren how to bake. Her pictures of cookie making weekends put a smile on everyone's face. Lord did she love spending quality time with young people, and had such great pride in her grandchildren.
I am so sorry I am not able to express my condolences to the family in person but please know that you are in my heart and prayers. Ruth will be sadly missed by all who knew her. With love and blessing.

Our family visited many times over the years and Aunt Ruth was always in the kitchen organizing! We cousins were always out playing. There are too many memories to list, but I wanted to share a couple pictures that captures Aunt Ruth's love for live, family and friends. The first two pictures were taken at my Mom's 80th birthday party in San Antonio. The third picture shows Mom and Aunt Dort cooling off in the creek at the cabin! Mom and her sister were very close and Mom is always sharing stories of how they grew up. Aunt Ruth will be missed here on earth, and I look forward to joining in with her in Heaven! My prayers and thoughts are with the family as you go through this time. Love to all, Tommy Clapp

I haven't been in the family for long, but Aunt Ruth was always smiling, especially when she was with her sister! I am sharing a couple pictures from the trip we made for her 90th birthday. One picture is at the Erie Canal before we got on the boat and the other picture was at Aunt Ruth's 90th birthday celebration. I feel sure she is organizing archives in Heaven! We will miss her. Hugs and kisses to the family. We love you all! Cindy Clapp

Ruth will always hold a special place in my heart. I know her family meant so much to her and were the most important thing to her. She would always ask how you were and greeted you with that beautiful smile of hers. She was willing to join in on everything, enjoyed her music, baking, cooking, crafts, church, reading being outside and pretty much everything. She liked to watch the news and on more than one occasion she would ask is the president doing a good job? She was a woman with a heart of gold and I will miss her dearly. RIP Ruth!

Peg, I have never met you, but I am from Tupper and live in Rochester. It's clear your Mom was a great lady. I am going to try to come to calling hours.

My Mom worked with Mrs Metzler at the IHS Library, and she enjoyed being there very much, and we both were invited to her beautiful cabin on a late Summer day. I also worked at the IHS Summer School Library with my friend Carol, and we had such fun creating an Australian Book Fair, and - we watched the moon landing together! Mrs. Metzler was always so kind and gentle, and taught me so much about the library and books. My thoughts and prayers go to her family; With my deepest sympathy, Angela Hass Dimisioris

Ruth cherished her family and gatherings at the campfire circle at their cabin. She’s was always ready to go at a moments notice.
