Obituary of Rita M. Hamilton
Webster: Sunday March 24. Born Rita Marie Willett in 1931 in Medina, New York, Rita grew up in Medina and Middleport NY. A skilled cook and baker she became the Cherry Pie Queen of New York State in 1949. She then briefly attended the University of Buffalo before marrying and having four sons. While raising her four boys, she attended SUNY Albany and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history from the University of Rochester. She took great pleasure in teaching Social Studies to 7thgrade students in the Webster School system as well as serving on state committees for developing Regents exam questions. She retired after 25 years of teaching.
In retirement, she devoted herself to her home on Plank Road in Webster, her flower gardens, church, and helping new refugees adapt to the challenges of life in a new land. She was a regular presence in the lives of her sons and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four sons, Alfred of Southborough, MA, Gordon of Red Bluff, CA, Scot of Naples, FL, and Robert of Oakland, Ca., five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Friends may call 2-4 PM Sunday, March 31, at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster, where her Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM. Private Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the University of Rochester.
