Hey, Dad
It's nearly Fathers' Day. Some of the kids and I will be camping this weekend up the Saint Lawrence where Walleyes dance on their tails in the moonlight. Hope to wet a line in your honor.
This year, I succumbed to greed at the garden stores and bought strawberry plants -- many strawberry plants. One might say too many strawberry plants. Bridget had convinced me it was worth trying them in hanging pots out of reach of snails and icky stuff. Alas, they have been raided by squirrels. A squirrel stole the the first strawberry just hours before I would have picked it. Then there were half-ripe berries that disappeared. When I saw one of those miserable varmints actually climb in with my most bountiful plant, I could stand it no longer! The girls brought out a large wire dog crate so we could place the strawberry pots where critters can't get at them. Now the strawberries are looking mighty sad, like they're in jail.
I may not actually triumph over the squirrels, but you taught me not to give up. And I think your Dad too, would applaud our stubbornness.
We've been enjoying more rhubarb this year than most. I've figured out that I don't enjoy baking pies nearly as much now as I did when I was baking them for you and Mom.
Love Ya

Looks like they've updated this website. It's different than I recall.
Your great grandson Jack is getting Confirmed next month. You'd be so proud of him, Dad! His favorite piece of music to play on his bass is Hall of the Mountain King from Grieg's Peer Gynt. He loves to wear a fedora and shades while playing too. Wicked sharp sense of humor that boy, though at 14 1/2 he's closer to man than boy.
Chris is passing along your love of classical music to each of his kids. Thank you for all those Saturday mornings you'd take one of us kids along to do the shopping with you while you had serious music on in the car... and for the Saturday mornings you'd watch cartoons with us, reading the pseudo Latin subtitles on Roadrunner and identifying the great music of Looney Tunes. So much of you lives on in your kids, grands and great grands.
Love you more than I can put into words.

Thinking of you with lots of love on what would have been the 97th day we'd celebrate for no particular reason. Miss you more than I can say. I trust Mom will hug you for us, and that ALL of Team Mac are reeling them in at the any time of day spot.

I can't seem to post on Mom's memorial site, so please pass along that the trillium is in bloom, and you can almost see the Hostas growing. Mother's Day is coming (probably here by the time this posts). It's also Kentucky Derby day. Time will tell if a bet on "Happy Jack" was a good idea, but it seems right. Happy Mothers' Day to Mom - and to you, too - since you can't have Mothers' Day without a father. Miss you both.

Happy birthday Dad. You'd be 96. Wishing we could all go to Charlies to celebrate with you again. Didn't Uncle Jim call that place "Hamburger Heaven"? So maybe you're not really missing out on Bacon Bleu Burgers after all. Don't forget to order it "off the char".

Happy Heavenly birthday, Dad. Don’t let Aunt Elma “spank” you at cribbage; I hear she’s pretty good. Would it make you smile to know that Dave is the new Cribbage Magistrate? There was a moment in January when It struck me that we couldn’t just call you when we’re unsure of how to score a somewhat involved cribbage hand.
Thinking of you and making butter tarts to celebrate your birthday. Love and miss you always.

The binder-clip is on the other foot, Dad. In memory of Veterans Day and on the second anniversary of your death, I will confess that my "home office" had gotten out of control. I was losing the battle of clutter, then pictured you trying to stifle a grin or groaning as I "helped" you wrangle paperwork at the lakehouse. Thoughts of you motivated me as I sorted and stapled my own papers. No binders, but there are plastic totes of files, invoices, bank statements and more. On a positive note, bringing inventory home allows me to ship orders from here. It's rare that I need to go into the office.
I love and miss you and Mom. Rest easy.

Yesterday was National Lighthouse Day. Thought of you and Mom, but that's not unusual. It was a beautiful day, and you both continue to shine a light which guides me. Rest easy.

Hey Dad,
The Windows are finally going in here. It's a grand improvement; thank you for your help getting it done.
Bridget and I were up camping at Wellesley Island State Park last weekend. It was wonderful sleeping weather. A little too cold and windy for fishing, but oh so comfy in a warm sleeping bag. We have so very many happy memories of TEAM MAC Fishing and Camping trips. I think Bridget was only three years old when we first camped with You and Mom up to Grass Point. Thank you for all the effort you put into giving us those fun, "team building" adventures.
With all the Covid 19 stuff going on, I've really wished I could discuss things with you, ask your advice, have the benefit of your logic and wisdom, yet at the same time I've been glad you and Mom didn't have to go through all the uncertainty. You probably would have wanted a mask to look like fake nose & glasses and I don't know how to make one like that... But you'd have laughed with Pete's Bat Mask, and the wedding themed ones we made for Bethany's friend. And you'd have appreciated the lighthouse mask that Bridget wore to Church with her Lighthouse dress.
Happy Fathers' Day, Dad. Love you.

Dad - You and Mom should SEE the house. Who am I kidding...I think you do see the house. Not to worry, we won't forget what it was like living in the home you built. A part of our hearts remains there with yours.

Did you know him as "Jack"? He went by John, Jack or Mac. In Cribbage, "nibs" or "nobs" are names given to the Jack of the turn-up suit. That is, if the turn-up card is a two of Spades, then a player holding the Jack of Spades scores an extra point in their hand, known as "one for his nibs".

May John be at peace. I only know him through the lovely stories my friend and colleague Cathy Waters has shared over the years. A man who together with his loving wife have raised, and have been the heart and soul of such a large and close family, has our total admiration. Our sincere condolences to the grieving family. -Vassilka & Nikolai

An avid hockey fan, fisherman and practical joker, Dad was active in scouting leadership and served as treasurer for SES 303 Lotus for a number of years. He retired from Kodak’s MSDD department in 1986. As Captain Jack, he helped found Team Mac: the McMillan Angling Confederation, a family institution that pursued humor and fish with equal dedication. He was a trip coordinator for Holy Name of Jesus parish’s Fun People, producing home videos and travelogues to entertain travelers on long bus trips. He later turned those skills to documenting his intrepid travels with Lorrie and provided voice talent for a number of his progeny’s productions. He and Lorrie volunteered with St. Paul parish’s Marthas, organizing post funeral hospitality. He also assisted Assumption parish’s Money Counters to prepare their collections for deposit. In his late 80’s, Mac learned to recycle plastic shopping bags into “plarn” and taught himself to crochet it into sleeping mats for the homeless by watching You-Tube videos. Well over 100 of the roughly 3 by 6 foot mats were delivered to homeless shelters in Rochester and Buffalo as a result.

I did not know John. In fact, I never had the pleasure, but I do know he must have been a great guy because his daughter Cathy loved him and respected him so much. He raised a really cool woman, so it stands to reason he must have been a gem of a man. My condolences to Cathy's family. Sending LOVE to Cathy and Mike.
