Obituary of William Arthur Naukam
Naukam, William Arthur
Webster: Entered into rest peacefully on Jan. 5, 2016, age 93. He was born in Buffalo, NY on May 15, 1922 to Arthur H. Naukam and Anna A. Hessler. He had the distinction of serving in both the Army and Navy, and a proud WW II veteran. He was at Pearl Harbor during the infamous attack there in 1941. After the war, he married Marie E. Krautwurst in Rochester in Jan. 1946. They loved to travel to visit family and were together until her passing in 2007.
They had 4 children, all of whom survive him. He worked as a carpenter building houses all over Rochester, and later got his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He taught industrial arts at several high schools in the Rochester and Buffalo areas; was a distributive education coordinator placing students in various positions in the Buffalo area, and taught until his retirement at the workshop at the Al Sigl Center. After his retirement he became very active in Webster, serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals, election inspector, and other town positions. He very much enjoyed the company of his comrades at the VFW post in Webster and often mentioned how much he appreciated his visit to the National WW II Memorial through the Honor Flight program, after which he was interviewed on Rochester television.
He will be sorely missed by his children Larry (Deborah), Susan (Frank Westover), Marcia, and Andrew Naukam; grandchildren Timothy (Meg) Westover, Bradley Westover, Ilisa (Jacob Stein), Nathaniel and Steven Naukam; and great grandchild, Chloe Westover.
