Hilfiker's -
I was just browsing the online newsletter of the Wesbter Methodist church and discovered your mom passed away last November. She was a childhood friend of our mom, Janet (Sutter) Detwiler, and taught all 4 of us Detwiler kids piano for as many years as she could stand us. I remember reading from her fine supply of comics in the living room while waiting for lessons. She was a marvelous musician, a wonderful teacher, and a wonderful person. I still think of her when I am hear an organ piece she used to do for us, and when I see kids doing wonderful things at the keyboard.

I got be really close to Helena through the years. She was my piano teacher even when we had no piano for me to practice on. It didn't take long for a piano to end up at our house. I took lessons for several years. Helena was a fabulous organ/ piano player and played for many choir performances as well as a few solos I did. Of all the things to remember was her beautiful smile that lit up a room and soft voice. She left a mark on my life and I will always hold her dear to my heart.. Keep her memories alive. I am so sorry for your loss Peace and comfort to you all

What a wonderful woman.....and aunt....We loved her details to our wedding music from 1978...and would try to send her a thank you card every September, telling her that.
Brewer family traditions always meant going to her house on New Year's day...all the generations...alot of fun and good memories. In her fading years, it was remarkable to hold conversations with her and watch her try so very hard to remember names and events and such. Brilliance in her musical abilities; wisdom about so much; kindness to everyone; always smiling; a heart of gold, that is what we will always remember about her! With our love to you all...

While Aunt Helena lived so close, we only saw each other occasionally, much to my dismay because she was a favorite. I loved everything about her...a classy, kind, involved woman. I always enjoyed New Years Day at her house with my older cousins. My dad just adored and admired her. My love to the family on the loss of both parents..Their family, and Webster, were lucky to have them.

Uncle Web used to walk by my house at 9 or 10 in the morning. Aunt Helena liked walking inside and.Uncle Web had such long legs that she probably wouldn't have been able to stay at the same pace. It was amazing how active they were.
I remember the New Years Day parties and how Dad, Uncle Harry, and your Mom would switch off each year. When we were very little your Mom would send birthday cards with $2 or $3 dollars. in those days we could get 300 pieces of penny candy at Baumans or 30 candy bars. When I got older I really enjoyed having family gathering when my Mom would visit. Aunt Helena was 12 years older than Dad and she would tell wonderful stories about the things he when he was a little boy. dad and Uncle Harry called her peanut. Dad often said how good she was to Grandma and Grampa when they got older. I have missed seeing her in Webster and have many loving memories of her and Uncle Web and I hope you all do too.

I was excited when I finally became an 8th grader; I had been waiting for that magic age when Mrs. Hilfiker said I could begin taking organ lessons from her at Webster United Methodist Church. And for the next 5 years, until I went to college, that's what I did. She was a wonderful teacher, skilled and patient and encouraging. She let me substitute for her when she was on vacation at the cottage on Keuka Lake, until I became a pastor and was no longer able to come back in the summer. More than being a teacher, she was an inspiration to me and everyone in the congregation, as she shared her faith through music during all those years of my childhood, and youth, and into adulthood--not only at Sunday morning worship, but at choir practice, and at weddings and funerals.
My prayers are with all her family and friends, for God to fill your heart with special memories and with music, until you join her & Mr. Hilfiker, in our eternal heavenly home.
