Obituary of Edward Francis Franek

Franek, Edward Francis (Eddie) Franek Webster: Died peacefully on Tuesday, December 16th, in Rochester, having just celebrated his 95th birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Rose Helen Franek; nieces Margaret (Dick) Nelson and Judy (Dave) Wagner of Pennsylvania, and by his friend and guardian, Mike Long of Fairport. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he married Rose Bilka of Altoona, PA in 1948 and they relocated to Webster in 1956. Ed was employed as a machinist at several local companies. He loved photography and music and was an accomplished amateur artist until he lost his sight late in life. Eddie was extremely proud of his service in the United States Navy during WWII, during which he saw combat in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of war. For most of that time he served on board the Fletcher Class Destroyer USS Isherwood, DD-520. He was a proud member of The National Association of Destroyer Veterans (The Tin Can Sailors). We are grateful for the loving care of the staff of ElderOne, in which Ed was a participant, and are especially grateful to caregivers Annette, Daimarelis and Edna, who sacrificed their own sleep to keep Eddie comfortable during his last days, as well as to the staff and wonderful volunteers of Meals On Wheels. He also received much loving support in recent years from "Friends of Rosie & Eddie", who included Carlyn (The Tea Lady) & Chuck (Guardian Angel #2), Kay (unfailing in sending cards of love), Rosemary (The Original Good Samaritan), Bonnie (Chief Fashion Consultant), Kim & Mary (Parents of Rocky), Tony & Staff of The Elegant Gent, Jeff (The Director) and Bobbi & Chris (Stephen Ministers of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish). There will be no calling hours. Eddie's funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Stan Kacprzak at St. Margaret Mary Church, 401 Rogers Pkwy, Rochester, NY, on Saturday, January 3rd at 9:30 AM. Inurnment at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to R Community Bikes, PO Box 26471, Rochester, NY 14626. Recalling his own childhood without a bicycle, Eddie felt strongly about the wonderful work of this organization to ensure that every child has one.
