Schlegel, William R. "Bill" Webster: Sunday, March 23, 2014, age 82. A lifelong resident of Webster, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Predeceased by son, Edward. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Schlegel; sister, Jeanne Schlegel, daughters, Debora (Douglas) Kulp, Sherry (Mike) Eckert; grandchildren, Matthew (Karri) Schlegel, Adam (Elaina Vaccaro) Schlegel, Jill Eckert, Andrew (Lisa) Kulp and David (Lisa) Kulp; great-grandchildren, Jaycob, Dylan and Logan Kulp. He is also survived by extended family as well as honorary sister & brother, Donna Winslow & Howard Williams. Bill was a retiree from Rochester Gas and Electric where his last position held was as a Distribution Engineer. He was a proud and respected member of the West Webster Volunteer Firemen's Association. During his 50 years of active service, he held many positions, his last being as District Commissioner. Bill also served as a Fire Policeman for many years as well as being the originator of the "Hose Lines", a Fire Department monthly newsletter. Additionally, Bill was the author of two books on the history of the West Webster Fire Department. A longtime member of the Masonic Lodge of Webster and a Life member of the Ontario Rod and Gun Club, Bill was also a columnist for the Webster Herald with a long running column "The Sportsman's Corner". Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Interment at Webster Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to West Webster Firemen's Association. Bill spent the last 14 months in declining health, expertly taken care of by the caring staff of the Fairport Baptist Home.
