Obituary of Shirley (Busch) Pappert

Shirley Busch Pappert was called to her eternal rest on September 30, 2023 to join other loved ones.

She was born on August 21, 1932, to William and Hazel (Barmaster) Busch in Walworth, NY.   She later became older sister to her brothers, Richard (Terry) and David.

Her most memorable grammar school years were at the Number 8 one room school on the corner of Sweets Corners and Salt Roads in Penfield, NY.

She was active in 4-H from the age of 10. She entered the 8th grade in Webster High School in 1945 and graduated in 1950 and continued to be active with her lifelong classmates.

From the age of 16, she worked in the business field. Beginning at the Webster Cold Storage as a young high school student to 35 years at the Fairport Baptist Home, she fulfilled her dream.

She married Walter Pappert, Jr. in 1951 and they had 2 daughters,  Babette and Kristin who gave her sons-in-law , Jay and Brian.  She became grandmother to Kirby and Whitney and great-grandmother to Evelyn.  She was married to Walter for 40 years.  In later years, she became a loving companion to Philip Hammond.

She was a lifelong active member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Webster, NY where she served as Sunday School teacher, Church Council member, Liturgical reader and Assisting Minister.  She was baptized, confirmed and married there.

In 1961, she began working at the Fairport Baptist Home as a part-time bookkeeper and receptionist.  In 1997, she retired as an assistant administrator. She devoted countless hours to serving the residents and staff and also served on the Women’s Service Board.

Her hobbies included shopping at estate sales and antique collecting. For a time, she was a vendor at the Whistlestop in Ontario, NY.  She also enjoyed traveling especially to see her family out of state.

During the last few years, a dear family friend, Marcia Naukam, stepped in to tend to her needs.

Her life was devoted to God and her family.
