Obituary of Catherine H. Denson

Webster: Catherine H. Denson (Kathy), one of the most vibrant, active and recognizable residents in Webster, died at home on November 5 at the age of 80. Kathy, known for her infectious laughter, magnetic personality and active participation in the community, church and school district, touched an entire town for nearly 50 years and was an inspiration to others throughout her life. Kathy was born in Andersonville, GA and leaves behind Fred, her husband of 56 years; son, Terry (Denise) of New York, NY, daughters, Kelly of Silver Spring, MD and Kendra; grandchildren, Jessica, Jake, Blaise, Cole and Ailey; a brother, Albert Clifford Hudson of New Brighton, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Annie Mae Finch and Theollis Lumpkin; and eight siblings. Kathy worked for the Webster Herald for several years before her 38 year career with the Webster Central School District where she was adored by staff and students in her role in the nurse's office and library. Kathy also sang in the choir and was an ordained elder and deacon at Webster Presbyterian Church. She also served on several committees of the Presbytery of Genesee Valley and was past president of the Urban League Guild. For many years, she participated in the CROP Walk in Webster and was among the top fundraisers for this cause. Kathy loved to be around people. She always laughed, smiled, and greeted everyone with a hug; her favorite saying was Every Day is a Gift. The family acknowledges with appreciation the exceptional care provided by Dr. Ronald Sham; Patient Care Technician, Maurice; and all of the staff and nurses at the Lipson Cancer Center. Calling hours are scheduled for November 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster, NY. A celebration of Kathy's life will take place on Saturday, November 12th at 3:00 pm at Webster Presbyterian Church, 550 Webster Rd., Webster, NY. Interment at Webster Union Cemetery.
