Richard Prideaux Obituary
With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of Richard Prideaux, who left us on March 22, 2026 at the age of 79. Rich is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Rita; his two daughters, Jodi (Dave) Bodak and Jamie (Dan) Showman; his grandchildren, Connor, Aubrey and Sophie; his sisters, Sue Tucker and Claire (Jim) Privitera; his brother, Paul Prideaux; and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Pauline Prideaux.
Rich was more than a brother, husband, father, and grandfather - he was a friend to everyone he met. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others. Whenever someone had a question or needed support, he was only a phone call away, always ready to offer advice, share words of wisdom, or lend a helping hand.
Rich was born and raised in Dansville, NY. He graduated, went on to college, earned his master’s degree, and dedicated over 40 years to working at Rochester General Hospital in the Information Services Department. He retired from the position of Director of Applications in 2011. He was known for his fantastic work ethic, kindness, positivity, intelligence, and commitment to the profession.
When he entered the stage of retirement, he found his greatest happiness outside - tending his gardens, spending time fishing, and taking in the beauty of the birds and creatures around him. He enjoyed reading and sharing precious moments with his grandchildren. One of their favorite moments was helping him make the popcorn he grew, always insisting he made “the best popcorn in the world.”
Though our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the time we had with Rich/Dad/Grampy. He was a simple and humble man whose legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his family and friends. In the words of his grandchildren, “he was the best fisherman and grew the best cucumbers and peas,” “he was the best grandpa ever,” and “we love him so much.”
A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
In remembrance of Rich’s life and love, the family invites you to honor him by living the words he taught his children: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
