John Daniel Schwenzer, 82, of Webster, NY, entered eternal rest on January 13, 2026. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, brother, friend, Son of God, and proud “Villager.”
“If you want a village, you have to be a villager”—and that he truly was.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda; his daughters, April (Gerald) Schwenzer-Bennett and Kimberly Schwenzer; his grandchildren, John and Lilly Bennett; and his sister, Mary Ellen Peters. As well as brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins & his beloved dog Doja. He is predeceased by his father and mother, John and Georgiana, and sister Jane, as well as his sweet pup Cici.
Born on February 10, 1943, John was adopted by John and Georgiana Schwenzer at Father Baker’s in Buffalo, NY. He lived in Webster, NY until the age of five at which time John, with his parents & sisters Jane & Molly, moved to Silver Spring, MD. He graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, where he met John F. Kennedy. He then proudly served his country aboard the USS Randolph aircraft carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis - his ship even picked up John Glenn upon his return to Earth from his first space mission.
After serving, John returned to New York and began his career in the Webster Police Department. First as a dispatcher, and then as a police officer.
John devoted his entire life to serving others and his community. Through his work with the Webster Police Department—as a DARE youth officer and then 911 operator—and for more than 30 years as an Identification Technician with the Rochester Police Department. John demonstrated a deep and lasting passion for law enforcement. He retired in 2008 but continued serving in the same role as a volunteer!
He was an active founding member of the Nine Mile Point Club and spent 57 proud years as a Webster Kiwanian, serving as member, multi-term President, and many term Board Member. He was honored twice as Kiwanian of the Year for his outstanding service to both the club and the community. John truly embodied a servant’s heart. Giving until the very end, he was an organ donor and was able to give his eyes, bone, and tissue, upon his passing.
Throughout his life, John consistently gave of himself through volunteer work, fundraising, and offering his time to those in need. He volunteered at Holy Trinity Church, including mass ministries & mowing the church grounds. He further shared his time volunteering at Maplewood Nursing Home, where he ultimately spent his final days on Earth in the rehab program after a hospital stay, surrounded by compassionate and caring hands.
As a proud U.S. Navy veteran, he had the privilege of traveling with his daughter on Honor Flight in May 2025 to Washington, D.C.—a true highlight of his final years.
John’s family meant everything to him. They had an incredibly close bond and spent as much time together as they could through the years, which he cherished and treasured. He loved traveling home & abroad, played piano by ear, singing harmonies, was a voracious reader, loved to golf, and enjoyed crosswords and puzzles. John was known for his incredible sense of humor, his deep love for his family, and his unwavering Catholic faith, which was a cornerstone of his life. The world truly lost a great man when he was called home. John left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will surely be missed by so many.
Rest now, good and faithful servant.
