Calvin R. “Pete” Nesbitt passed away at the age of 92 on November 20, 2025. He was born in the family home at Pine Hill Farms in Barre Center, New York to David R. Nesbitt and Clara (Salisbury) Nesbitt.
Pete graduated from Albion High School in 1950 and earned his BS degree in Animal Husbandry at Cornell University in 1954. While at Cornell, he joined Alpha Zeta fraternity and formed lifelong friendships. He served as an aircraft carrier pilot in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1958. In 1958, he returned home to manage Pine Hill Farms and remained in the Naval Reserves until 1963.
Pete married Dana (Alexander) Haseley, the widow of his fraternity brother, Arnold Haseley, in 1966. He adopted Dana's three young children, Debra, Randall, and Kristen. The family welcomed a daughter, Lisa Joy (L.J.) in 1969.
Pete would most like to be remembered for his devotion to his Savior, Jesus Christ. He joined Barre Center Presbyterian Church at age 16, where he was a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Elder for many years.
Leadership and Community Service were cornerstones of Pete’s active life. At his one-room schoolhouse, Pine Hill #6, in grade school, he founded the Pine Hill Pioneers 4H Club. As a student at Albion High School, he was elected president of both the FFA and student council. During his farming career, he served on the boards of various professional organizations, including New York Farm Bureau, New York State Apple Growers Association, and the Cornell University Agricultural Advisory Board.
In his retirement, he and Dana enjoyed international travel and winters in Pawleys Island, SC, where they made many friends and attended Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Pete was also a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
After Dana’s death, Pete married Lois Brenneman Miller in 2019. (Pete and Lois had dated during his bachelor days, when they were both members of Young Adult Fellowship in Rochester.) They enjoyed six happy years together between their homes in Penfield and at Pine Hill Farms in Albion.
Pete is survived by his wife, Lois Miller Nesbitt; two stepchildren, Suzanne (Jonathan) and Stephen (Amy); four step-grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Caroline and Brady; his children, Debra Alexander Nesbitt of Toronto, Randall Nesbitt (Christina Lacey) of Ithaca, Kristen Nesbitt (Ivan Ourusoff) of Wilmot, NH and L.J. (Hampton Bridwell) of Newbury, NH; and his grandchildren, Aidan and Charlotte.
Loved as “Uncle Pete” by countless family members and friends, Pete leaves a legacy of unwavering faith, hard work, and service.
Pete’s arrangements have been entrusted to Willard H. Scott Funeral Home in Webster, NY. A Memorial Service will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, December 6 at Barre Center Presbyterian Church, 4706 Oak Orchard Rd., Albion, NY.
Pete’s family is grateful to UR Medicine Hospice, who cared for him in his final days at Mt. Carmel House in Hilton, NY. Donations in Pete’s name may be sent to Mt. Carmel House, The Salvation Army, or Disabled American Veterans.
