Webster:  Passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by her family and loving caregivers.  Shirley was born in Rochester, NY on November 11, 1932 to John and Elsa Vaisey.  She was raised in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School.  Shirley moved on to study Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Brockport, graduating with Cum Laude honors.

            She began her teaching career in the Rochester City School District where she met her future husband, William Topel. They married in 1956 and moved to Webster, where she continued her teaching career in the Webster Central School District until her retirement.

Predeceased by William, her husband of 69 years, her parents, and brother, John Vaisey, Shirley is survived by her 4 children, Susan Topel-Samek (Peter) of Ft Meyers, FL, Anne Christner (Jim) of Brighton, Robert Topel (Christine) of Penfield and Mary Kay Rox of Fairport;  9 grandchildren, Brian Samek, Greg Samek (Mandi), Daphne Topel-Samek, Sarah Christner, Ashley Topel, Erin Topel, Lindsay Topel, Jordan Rox and Sean Rox.

            Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a beloved aunt, friend and neighbor. She leaves a legacy of a deep faith in God, kindness and unending curiosity about the world around her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

            Friends may call 12:15 to 1:00 PM Monday, December 1 at St. Rita Church, 1008 Maple Dr., Webster, where her Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St Ann’s Foundation or the Rochester Finger Lakes Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
