The family is grateful to all who helped us on her journey, especially Cathryn Cooper, Missie Skuse, and Nicole Quick.
Ollie was a woman of strength and beauty who showed remarkable courage throughout her long life. She always found joy around her and passed it on to others. For instance, she volunteered in different capacities such as Girl Scout Leader, driver for Friends in Service Here (FISH), and as member of her church choir, among other worthy causes. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.
First and foremost, Ollie loved Bernie and her family, and then Ted Williams, Eddie Arnold, and the Buffalo Bills. She loved nature, bird watching, and playing pinochle, euchre, and bridge. With Bernie she traveled far and wide and enjoyed adding to her circle of friends.
Ollie was a 1951 graduate of the Utica Free Academy. She attended night school at Monroe Community College while managing a large household, working full-time, and earned an A.S. in Business Administration, with distinction, in 1980. Education was something she held as important for all her children. She was clever and brilliant, finding solutions everywhere and beloved wherever she worked. A lifelong learner, she read every biography she could find and remembered every word. Her love of music, classic films, books, and the sports page, made her a source of knowledge and wit, but her humility made her all the more likable.
A devout Catholic, Ollie lived her faith and led by example. She was very proud of her long, happy marriage, loved her large family, and even the chaos that large family created. In retirement Ollie could be seen with her grandchildren around Rochester at museums or watching red pandas at the zoo. She had a strong moral compass, and a heart big enough to accept everyone as they are.
One of her best pieces of advice was “It’s not what happens to you in life, but how you let it affect you.” She passed down much wisdom and often reminded us, “life is about choices - choose wisely.”
