Walworth: Sheri died peacefully on September 3, 2025 after a long illness.
Sheri was born October 24, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa and was raised in Keokuk and Burlington, IA. She is a 1975 graduate of Burlington Community High School and attended Southeastern Community College, both in Burlington, Iowa. Sheri worked as a medical transcriptionist at several hospitals throughout her career in Iowa, Atlanta, and Rochester before devoting her life’s work to being a stay-at-home mother. She was a lifelong Lutheran and a dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Webster, where she served in several leadership roles and ministries, including: Church Council member, Worship and Music Committee chair, Altar Guild chair, Flowers chair, Sunday School teacher, Senior Choir, and the ImmanuBells handbell choir.
All who knew Sheri will never forget her beautiful singing voice, witty sense of humor, sharp attention to detail, incredible taste, and devotion to her family. She loved to entertain friends and family at home around the dining room table with comfort meals and endless laughter. Sheri loved to see the world and travel with her family, especially to San Francisco, Lake Placid, Disney Parks, and Disney Cruises.
Sheri was active in the music community from an early age and it is where she first met her husband, Leon, at age 12. Throughout her youth and early adulthood she was a recognized Soprano, Clarinetist, and Pianist who performed in elite ensembles as well as high school band, orchestra, jazz band, and marching band. An admirer of classical and sacred music, Sheri shared her unmistakable buttery Soprano voice with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus and performed in Rochester’s Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, a privilege of which she was immensely proud.
Sheri is survived by her husband and partner of over 50 years, Leon, two daughters, Stephanie and Hannah (David) Spencer, and three grandchildren. Her parents, Evelyn Mae (Bates) and John Frederick Unglaub, and sister, Amy Unglaub, preceded her in death.
Interment will be private. Friends are invited to celebrate Sheri with the family at their home in Walworth on Sunday, September 14 from 1-5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
