He married Janet Buckert and together they built a house in Penfield where they raised 6 children: Larry, Kathy, Greg, Diane, Lynne, and Jackie.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent his spare time fishing at the family cottage on Sawyers Bay in Henderson. In the winter, he enjoyed ice fishing at Honeoye Lake and Henderson Harbor. No matter the season, landing a fish always put a smile on his face. He took many hunting trips with his buddies and nephew Tommy, including: trips to Colorado, Canada, Alaska, and Africa. In his later years, Ed was remarried to Kay Donavan where they enjoyed their retirement years at the cottage relaxing and fishing with friends and family.
