Obituary of Donaldlene McGrain
Irondequoit: Donaldlene McGrain was born December 7, 1932. She was a humble servant of the Lord. She died on April 29, 2025 of old age. She lived a full life and loved her husband Tom deeply for 71 years of marriage. They met when Tom was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota during the Korean War. They married and returned to New York which was a foreign land to Donnie. She became a staunch Catholic and attended the St. Margaret Mary’s Church. She and her friends were heavily involved in the Altar Rosary Society which formed lifelong bonds of friendship. Her everlasting words were “always turn the other cheek”. She was the epitome of a Christian Woman.
Tom and Donnie did everything together. Donnie crewed on the family sailboat “Hopscotch”; went fishing in all the streams, rivers and lakes around Rochester and the Adirondack Mountains; spent summers with Tom at their camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota; and traveled with Tom to all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Donnie’s motto was “never say no” so she did everything with Tom.
Donnie loved her friends and social life. She was a proud member of the Bocce group and the anchor of the Hot Shots team. She will be greatly missed and is predeceased by her daughter, Patricia,. Survived by her loving husband, Thomas McGrain; son, Craig (Suzanne) McGrain; son-in-law, John Miller; grandsons, Austin and Aidan, step-grandsons, William and Nicklas.
