Obituary of James J. "Jim" Tanney

Webster: Tuesday, April 15, 2025, age 83. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Karen; daughters, Susan (Dace) Campbell, Kirsten (Matt) Lynch, and Michelle (Todd) Whitehead; grandchildren, Arlan, Corban, and Declan Campbell, Alexandra and Tyler Whitehead; sister-in-law, Fran Tanney; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim hailed from Pittsburgh (Go Steelers!) and made lifelong friends while serving in the U.S. Army. Soon after, fate led him to a serendipitous meeting with Karen, with whom he built a beautiful life together in Webster. Jim had a deep curiosity for the world around him and challenged himself in everything he did.

For work, he flexed his engineering skills at Xerox, launched a business providing the best movie recommendations around, and then returned to Xerox to advance product development. He was hardworking and in retirement was  most fond of spending time with Karen, traveling the world and exploring nature’s wonders. He  enjoyed reading mysteries, volunteering with the Friends of the Webster Library, painting landscapes, solving extreme Sudoku puzzles, staying up to date on world events, listening to smooth jazz, and spending time with family and friends.

Jim/Dad will forever be an example of love without limits, loyalty, trustworthiness, thoughtfulness, kindness, and perseverance, always with a healthy sense of humor.

Friends may call Saturday, April 19, 1-3 PM at Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Ave., Webster.  In honor of Jim’s memory, donations may be made to the following non-profit organizations he loved and appreciated.
